Summary

The Transportation Manager will assist the General Manager and Assistant Plant Manager in managing the activities of the Truck Drivers. They will prepare and execute a daily dispatch plan including scheduling and dispatching drivers to appropriate locations according to customer requests, specifications, or needs, using radios or telephones. This role will be responsible for various transportation metrics of drivers. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage 10-12 CDL Class A truck drivers on a daily basis including: interview/hire, training/development, and employee discipline


• Effectively manage measurable transportation metrics including Trailer Dwell, Driver Delay, Drive Idle Time, DVIR Management as well as others.


• Prepare and execute a daily dispatch plan and communicate this plan to all pertinent parties


• Manage a fleet of approximately 170 trailers including maintenance and monthly DOT requirements.


• Relay work orders, messages, and information to or from drivers, supervisors, using telephones or two-way radios


• Confer with customers or supervising personnel in order to address questions, problems, and requests for service


• Ability to handle outside carriers and scheduling using TMS System, Freightview


• Coach drivers on in-cab camera events using Samsara


• Manage the timely loading and unloading of product


• Prepare daily work and run schedule


• Receive or prepare work orders


• Oversee all communications within specifically assigned territories


• Monitor personnel and/or equipment locations and utilization in order to coordinate service and schedules


• Maintain driver qualification files

Experience and Qualifications

• Must have the ability to communicate accurately and clearly both orally and in writing; pleasant telephone manner; able to think on their feet when dealing with callers; customer service oriented, "can do" approach to work


• Experience using Samsara is preferred


• Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required


• Must have superior organizational skills and be extremely detail oriented


• Must possess excellent problem solving and people skills


• 1+ years of experience as a dispatcher strongly preferred


• Previous experience in transportation and/or logistics strongly preferred


• High School Diploma or GED Required
