Job Duties


THIS IS AN HOURLY POSITION THAT IS LIMITED TO 29 HOURS A WEEK, 1500 HOURS IN A 12-MONTH PERIOD AND IS NOT ENTITLED TO STATE BENEFITS PACKAGE.

The Ashland Residency’s Land Use Office has an exciting hourly opportunity for a Permit Technician.

This position will:
• Coordinate workflow, maintain files, and prepare reports.
• Ensure permit applications, fees, sureties, street acceptance and requests are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
• Provide assistance to internal and external customers on a variety of topics related to the assigned program areas.
• Prepare permit completion notices and process release of sureties and update and maintain street acceptance database.
• Provide administrative and technical support and document management.


VDOT is an emergency response agency and this position is the core of this requirement, therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations.

Minimum Qualifications


• Knowledge of office and program support activities.
• Knowledge of applicable policies and procedures.
• Skill in the use of computers and software including web-based and word processing software applications.
• Ability to compile, coordinate, and prepare reports.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to prioritize, organize, and communicate information
• Ability to work independently and under pressure
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Ability to research, gather, and analyze data.


Additional Considerations


• Knowledge of permitting and street acceptance process.
• A combination of training, experience, and education in civil design or construction management.
